Reading for comprehension

While I love to read the amount that I retain is abysmal. In an effort to improve my retention I’ve taken a couple of steps to improve this. One of which is slowing down and rereading passages. I recently ordered a book by James Sire titled, How to Read Slowly: Reading for Comprehension. It should be here tomorrow. Last night while reading through a pamphlet for the Ambassador’s Curriculum by STR I came across a section on how to own a book, which was reminiscent of the techniques described in yet another book, How to Read a Book. Here is a link to the article by Greg that gives good insight in how to own a book. I like Greg’s points and will try to use them on the book I’m currently reading. I’ll let you know if I own it afterwards.

What techniques do you utilize for reading comprehension and retention?
