60 days

I’ve recently been reading books of the Bible in roughly 7 chapter increments, daily for 30 days. My goal was to not just read but to really dig in, trying to remember as much as I could about the books.

This approach is good but I found myself wanting to get an overview of the New Testament as a whole so I decided to take a different approach first and then roll up my sleeves and dig into God’s Word.

I added up the chapters within the New Testament and came up with 260. If you were to read 5 chapters a day beginning in Matthew and ending in Revelation it would take you only 52 days to read the entire New Testament. So far I’ve averaged 20-30 minutes a night of reading time. That leaves 8 makeup days for when I’m just unable to sit down and read.

I hope this will encourage some of you to pick up the Bible and spend some time reading God’s Word and getting to know Him.

“And by this we know that we have come to know him, if we keep his commandments. 2:4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, 2:5 but whoever keeps his word, in him truly the love of God is perfected. By this we may know that we are in him: 2:6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.”
(1John 2:3-6 ESVS)

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will not pass away.”
(Matthew 24:35 NAS95S)

“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
(Hebrews 4:12-13 ESVS)
